Critical Lens Essay Outline
Task: Make an outline for the Part 4 ELA Regents Critical Lens essay.
I. Introduction
The quote “To gain that which is worth having, it may be necessary to lose everything else.” by Bernadette Devlin means that in order to get something that is worth a lot for a person they would have to deal with having to lose everything else they have to get that thing. The characters in these two books have to give up so many things in order to gain one thing that is worth all their lose and sufferings.

Part 4 of the ELA Regents Critical Lens
Task
Interpret the quotes given. Then write down two work of literature with the author that can be compare to the quotes. Then write your introduction paragraph.
"To gain that which is worth having, it may be necessary to lose everything else.”
—Bernadette Devlin
Interpretation

"I like flawed characters because somewhere in them I see more of the truth.”
— Nicolas Cage,
Interpretation
"I like flawed characters because somewhere in them I see more of the truth" by Nicolas Cage, means that when people show their flaws they are showing their true self not like the people that show no flaws which make you think like they have something to hide. I agree with this quote. People that don't show their flaws are not showing their true self. Two books that relate to this quote are Foul Play by Tori Carrington, and Save the last dance for me by Dyan Sheldon. In these stories the characters hide their true self and when they are discovered they are the worst of the characters.
