Task: Make an outline for the Part 4 ELA Regents Critical Lens essay.
I. Introduction
The quote “To gain that which is worth having, it may be necessary to lose everything else.” by Bernadette Devlin means that in order to get something that is worth a lot for a person they would have to deal with having to lose everything else they have to get that thing. I agree with this quote. When a person gains something they have to lose something else. Two books that is related to this quote are, The Odyssey by Homer and Cinderella Hour,by Katherine Stone. The characters in these two books have to give up so many things in order to gain one thing that is worth all their lose and sufferings.
II. Body Paragraph 1
The Odyssey relates to the quote by Bernadette Devlin because of the character Odysseus. Odysseus has to give up twenty years of his life to return home to the ones he loves.
a. Odysseus loses all his men in his journey to return home.
b. He has to face monsters and almost loses his life.
c. When he returns home he has to face the suitors that want to marry his wife.
III. Body Paragraph 2
Cindererella Hour relates to this quote because of the character Luke. Luke has a hard life and to survive he has to lose many things.
a. Luke had to push himself farther then his limits to be able to live another day because his father might kill him.
b.Luke had to risk his life to save himself from a fire that his father did to kill him.
c.Saving himself ment losing his only family that was his dad and his home.
IV. Body Paragraph 3
Both novels have the characters lose something or someone they love in order to get what is really important.
a. Odessyeus friends die as they try to get back home and Luke's dad dies when his dad burns the house.
b. Both of them had to go throw many obsticle in order to stay alive.
V. Conclusion
a. Restate your opinion on the quote and why it is important.
b. The quote relates to real life because sometimes people have to make huge sacrafices to get to what really is worth it.
